Workshops

Our workshops

All our workshops are currently free. They are usually small groups and informal sessions (for example, we do not do introductions or group exercises). All materials are provided and no artistic or sewing skills are needed. We will listen but will not intrude.

If you are part of a group that might like to participate in one of our creative activities, we can bring all the materials to you and facilitate a session based on your groups wishes.

No artistic or sewing skills are needed for any of these activities. To discuss participating in any of our activities, contact Caroline Aldridge at RememberingToegetherGroup@gmail.com.

Our programme of workshops is developing all the time.

These are some of the activities we offer at our free workshops and drop-ins where all materials are provided.

Quilt square making – we invite people to make a square in memory of someone they love. These will displayed at public events.

Lights of hope – We offer various ways for people to decorate glass jars or bottles that have lights.

Wooden candle holders – We have a variety of wooden blanks that people can decorate.

Collage Journals – People can decorate a journal or note book. Ideal for capturing some special memories.

Stitched stories – Using mixed media, we create panels that tell a story about someone special. We also offer online workshops for these.

Memory quilts/cushions – This is an opportunity to learn to make a quilt or cushion in memory of a loved one.

Pebble painting – Using paints or acrylic pens, people can decorate rocks of hope.

Picking up the threads – utilising unfinished work and ‘picking up the threads’ to create something new.

Weaving our narratives – Mixed media weaving using fabric, paper and looms

Rainbows of hope– Rainbow-themed drop-in craft sessions are in local libraries (suitable for all ages): These offer a taster of our different craft activities and are a great way to meet the team and find out what we do.

Stitched Stories online group- Our stitched stories online group meets via zoom bi-monthly. Our next project is mixed media ‘Seaside Memories’. Please email Caroline to receive a starter kit and Zoom links.

Upcoming projects

‘Quilts of Comfort’

We are beginning to make some small
quilts to gift to people attending Coroner’s
Court. Please contact Caroline if you are
interested in either making quilts or
attending quilting bee workshops.
We have created some quilt kits that
people can purchase too.

‘How to’ Workshops

We are still exploring ‘how to’ workshops
which will teach people sewing skills. For example, making a memory cushion, learn
to quilt, learn to make a bag, how to use
your sewing machine etc. If there is
enough demand we will run mini-courses
in small, supportive groups. Please contact
Caroline if you are interested in this.

‘Picking up the threads’

We often hear bereaved people describe
feeling ‘incomplete’ and this got us
thinking about ways we could support
people to express and process these
feelings. I have lots of people’s unfinished projects from the past. We wanted to make this a positive activity so
we will be launching various creative projects based on utilising unfinished work and ‘picking up the threads’ to create
something new.

Rainbows of Hope

We will be making Rainbows of Hope crafts at our regular drop-ins and workshops. These will be individual and collaborative projects. For details of dates and venues please see our Diary.

Past workshops

Below is a taster of just some of the activites we have been doing in our first year and what we can provide.

Rainbows of Hope online group.

The stitched stories Zoom group piloted a project. ‘Rainbows of Hope’ created individual panels that, when displayed together, form a rainbow wall-hanging bursting with hope and wellbeing. We began this exciting project during Suicide Prevention Week with the theme of ‘Creating Hope Through Action’. This aligns with Remembering Together’s philosophy of the power of art to connect people and heal. Participants were sent a free inspiration pack in a rainbow colour of their choice.

Remembering Together Craft Workshops

We can offer free workshops to any non-profit group in Norfolk (and beyond). We tailor the activities we bring to the group’s needs. So if you, or your organisation, has a group who would like to get involved in one of our textile art projects, or try out one of our craft activities (above), please contact Caroline at RememberingTogetherGroup@gmail.com

We can provide workshops for organisations who charge for, or are commissioned to provide, their services for a fee.

We have limited availability and will prioritise supporting small voluntary groups.

Quilting through bereavement workshops

We are planning to meet regularly in North Norfolk to do the following:

Piece together the collaborative quilt panels.

Making memory quilts. This will be an opportunity to learn to quilt.

Bags of hope: Learn to sew and make a bag from up-cyled materials.

Please contact Caroline if you are interested.
